Rocca and Sasso Nature Reserve

A wonderful place to explore, complete with scenic trails, cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

Rocca and Sasso Nature ReservePaths, woods, arid meadows, olive groves, vineyards the Manerba del Garda Nature Reserve is the ideal territory for lovers of nature, sports and walks outdoors.

The Reserve, declared a Protected Area in April 2016, covers 114 hectares, preserves and disseminates the beauty of a territory with unique history and biodiversity.

The Reserve welcomes you

To protect and conserve the ecosystem, limitations have been introduced – such as on hunting, the expansion of existing buildings, circulation of motor vehicles and other actions that may damage natural and historical-archaeological characteristics.

This immense Nature Reserve is home to over 60 species of birds living in the 5 natural habitats that comprise the territory (ponds, arid meadows and cultivated lands, forests and rock walls). Similarly, the area’s flora is typical Mediterranean scrub and boasts many rare species, including native orchids.

An unmistakable symbol of the Reserve is the Manerba Cross, which dominates the Rocca and guards over breathtaking views of the lake. Visible from various parts of the territory, the Manerba Cross is linked to an evocative legend.

Don’t skip walking along the CAl no. 801 trail, a panoramic route that leads from the Church of San Giorgio to the Sasso cliffs.

The Museum

The Valtenesi Archaeological Civic Museum is located within the Rocca and Sasso Nature Reserve of Manerba del Garda, along the road that follows an ancient path, already well-travelled certainly since Roman times, which leads to the remnants of the medieval castle atop the Rocca.

On the west side, the building is characterised by a large window which, in addition to being a source of light for the interior, emphasises the close connection of the complex with the surrounding landscape.

On the ground floor, the archaeological section narrates events that took place in the area through artefacts found at various sites.

On the first floor, the exhibition on the medieval Fortress is included in the nature section that illustrates the richness and uniqueness of the Nature Reserve.

Amongst the testimonies in the Civic Archaeological Museum of the Valtènesi are those related to the presence of the Bronze Age pile dwellings, which stood in the San Sivino area and have been declared a UNESCO heritage site.

Lacuale Park

The Lacuale Park covers 84 hectares of water flanking 116.2 hectares of coastal territory between Porto Dusano and Pisenze.

Fishing is prohibited in this area (with the exception of professional fishing, regulated by authorised access). Also banned is unauthorised access and transit by motorised vehicle.

Navigation is permitted only on sailboats, rowboats, pedal boats and sailboards. This ensures that the fish population is maintained and monitored, much to the delight of scuba divers!
