The winds of Lake Garda

Whether you are a lover of water sports, a sailor or simply curious, knowing the main winds of Lake Garda will allow you to experience your adventure in Manerba to the fullest.

Ander

The winds blow from the South-West, constant and subtle, in the early afternoon. These winds manifest mainly between Rivoltella and Padenghe, sometimes even reaching Fornaci and the Rocca di Manerba. Lasting a few hours, the gusts are particularly pleasant and can be felt mainly in Basso Garda but also extend to Alto Garda. Ideal for a walk or a boat ride.

Pelèr

Protagonist of the mornings on the lake, the winds blow from 2 to 3 in the morning until around 11 am to noon. Lasting for about 12 hours, these winds are most intense on the eastern half of the lake. These regular winds are a perfect ally for those who love windsurfing or sailing, offering optimal conditions for the more athletic.

Ora

Afternoon winds blowing from the south, hailing from the Po Valley. Thy generally blow after the end of of the north wind known as Pelèr, starting from around noon to 1 pm until sunset. Although more intense during the summer, the lower lake is almost always sheltered. Perfect for water sports enthusiasts, they guarantee memorable experiences.

Vinessa

This wind blows a few hours after the onset of the “Bora” northerly to north-easterly or in unstable weather in the Alto Adriatico. When the sky to the east-southeast of Peschiera darkens, the arrival of this wind is imminent and can become quite dangerous due to its strength and the intensity of the waves it generates. A wind to be monitored to ensure safety while sailing.

Vènt da Mut

It blows especially in the summer, when the lake is calm, being more frequent on the western side of the lake. The most fearsome winds descend from the Toscolano Valley, being sudden and very violent, able to overturn grounded sailing boats. A spectacular event, albeit to be approached with caution.

Vent de Tèp

Typical of summer, this wind manifests when the sky just above the lake is covered by dark clouds. Of considerable intensity, it is very dangerous for any boat. The gusts lasts from 20 to 60 minutes, but the strength renders this a phenomenon that should not be underestimated.
